For hiking lovers and nature enthusiasts, Mount Agung has always been one of Bali’s most iconic spiritual and adventure destinations. However, please be aware that all hiking routes to Mount Agung will be temporarily closed from November 2 to November 16, 2025.This closure is not without reason.According to an official letter issued by the Forest Management Institution of Sebudi Village, the temporary closure is due to a series of major religious ceremonies taking place at Kahyangan Jagat Pura Pasar Agung Besakih Giri Tolangkir in Karangasem. The letter, dated October 13, 2025, states that during this period, the temple will hold the Pujawali Purnama Kelima celebration, including the Nuur Ida Betara procession and other ritual activities. To respect and preserve the sacredness of these ceremonies, all hiking access to Mount Agung will be closed to the public until the rituals are completed.
Why This Closure Matters
Mount Agung is not just Bali’s highest volcano — it is also the spiritual heart of the island. At its base stands Besakih Temple, the most important and holiest Hindu temple in Bali. When major religious events take place, local communities take great care to protect the purity and sanctity of the area.As such, respecting these traditions is not only a sign of cultural understanding, but also a way to help preserve the spiritual heritage of Bali for future generations.
